Please review the following information prior to submitting your application.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and other related community artists (LGBTQIA+) are encouraged to present contemporary works that not only celebrates the unique sense of pride that this diverse community has, but also some of the challenges we face as a community seeking equality. In partnership with local gallerist Ashten McKinney of Curatory Gallery, HCAC is seeking artwork that expresses authentic, diverse viewpoints from the LGBTQIA+ experience unique to Appalachia and WNC.
Ashten McKinney is owner and operator of Curatory Galleries, LLC. Transgender artist, gallerist, and project consultant Ashten Mckinney combines her passion of visual arts and event curation to produce exhibitions that hold space for the under-represented and often misunderstood community of visual story tellers. From her contemporary gallery and through various off-site locations, Ashten is committed to promoting the work of visionary artists continuing to push creative limits, often speaking to social and political challenges such as climate change, gender equality, and racial justice.
